Couples Therapy for Connection, Communication & Conflict
Couples therapy at Lindsey Turner Therapy is a space to untangle conflict, rebuild trust, and get back to feeling like partners.
Couples therapy at Lindsey Turner Therapy helps partners understand the patterns that keep showing up: how you argue, how you repair, and how you stay connected under stress.
We offer a grounded, nonjudgmental space where couples can explore the full range of their relational dynamics, including the difficult, tender, or often unspoken parts. Our training is focused on sex therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), with a particular emphasis on helping partners break out of entrenched patterns, navigate conflict, and move toward more secure emotional and physical connection.
Couples therapy often brings up raw, complex emotions, and that’s where meaningful change begins. We’re here to help you move through the discomfort that confronting conflict in therapy can bring, and to support all partners in feeling seen, understood, and reconnected.
What Couples Therapy at LTT Looks Like
Whether you're working through a specific conflict or want to strengthen your relationship before things get harder, our therapists help you slow down and see the patterns underneath the surface-level argument. Sessions are available in person in NYC and via telehealth anywhere in New York State.
We work with couples at every stage: newly together, long-married, navigating a major life transition, or rebuilding trust after a breach. Our approach is direct and practical; it's not just "talk about your feelings." You'll leave sessions with something to actually work on.
Our expertise includes working with couples navigating issues around intimacy, desire discrepancies, infidelity, communication breakdowns, emotional disconnection, parenting stress, and long-standing conflict. We are also attuned to the nuances of diverse relationship structures, including LGBTQIA+ partnerships and non-monogamous dynamics.
While sex therapy is a core part of our work, our approach goes far beyond sex and intimacy. We help couples understand the emotional layers beneath their struggles and support them in building more resilient, connected, and fulfilling relationships through deeply emotional work.
Common Questions About Couples Therapy
How do we know if we need couples therapy?
There's no threshold you have to hit first. Some couples come in during a crisis, others come in to strengthen a relationship that's already good. If you're stuck in the same argument on repeat, feeling disconnected, or want a neutral space to communicate better, that's reason enough to start.
Is couples therapy available via telehealth in New York State?
Yes. Couples therapy sessions are available in person at our NYC office and via telehealth anywhere in New York State, including for couples where one or both partners are logging in from different locations.
What if only one of us wants to go to therapy?
It's common for one partner to be more hesitant. We recommend starting with a first session so the hesitant partner can see what it's actually like before committing further. There's no pressure to have it all figured out going in.
How is couples therapy different from individual therapy at LTT?
Couples therapy involves both partners in the room together, focused on the relationship itself. Individual therapy focuses on one person's own patterns and history. Many clients do both: individual therapy alongside couples sessions.
Does LTT accept insurance for couples therapy?
LTT is an out-of-network provider, which means we don't bill insurance directly, but many clients use their out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for a portion of session fees. We provide superbills you can submit to your insurance company.
How long does couples therapy usually take?
There's no set timeline. We ask that you see couples therapy as an investment in your relationship over the long term. Some couples come for several months to work through something specific, others stay longer for ongoing support. Your therapist will check in with you regularly about progress and goals.
Do you work with non-monogamous or open relationships?
Yes. We're experienced working with couples across relationship structures, including non-monogamous and open relationships, and we don't assume monogamy is the default or the goal.
