What Sex Therapy at LTT Looks Like
Sex therapy is talk therapy focused on sexuality, mismatched desire, disconnection, sexual anxiety, past experiences that still show up in the bedroom, or simply wanting a better, more honest sex life. Sessions are available in person in NYC and via telehealth anywhere in New York State.
We work with individuals and couples across sexual orientations and relationship structures, and we don't assume a single "normal" way to have sex or a relationship. Our approach is direct, and we treat sex as something worth talking about clearly, not something to tiptoe around.
We work with the full range of sexual concerns, from the everyday to the complex. That might mean a mismatch in desire, wanting to feel more present during sex, or simply not knowing how to bring up something you've never said out loud. It might also mean something harder, such as sexual trauma, pain during sex, or the aftermath of infidelity. Needing sex therapy might mean wanting a therapist who won't blink at kink, non-monogamy, or anything outside the "conventional" script. Wherever you fall on that range, we're not here to decide what's normal. We're here to help you understand what you actually want, and how to get there.

Common Questions About Sex Therapy
What actually happens in a sex therapy session?
Sex therapy is talk therapy where you and your therapist talk through any sexually related thoughts, feelings, or challenges you may be experiencing. Some sessions include take-home exercises for you (or you and your partner) to try between sessions.
Is sex therapy only for couples with a sexual problem?
No. Many clients come alone to work through their own relationship with sex, desire, or body image, independent of a partner. Couples also come in for mismatched desire, disconnection, or wanting to deepen an already-good sex life; sex therapy is not only for crisis situations.
What is desire discrepancy, and can therapy help?
Desire discrepancy is when partners want sex at different frequencies or in different ways. It is one of the most common reasons couples come to sex therapy. Therapy helps you understand what's underneath the mismatch and find a way forward that works for both of you, rather than one partner just "giving in."
Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients and non-monogamous relationships?
Yes. We're a queer-affirming, non-monogamy-aware practice, and we don't assume monogamy or any particular relationship structure is the default or the goal.
Is sex therapy available via telehealth in New York State?
Yes. Sessions are available in person at our NYC office and via telehealth anywhere in New York State.
Does LTT accept insurance for sex therapy?
LTT is an out-of-network provider, which means we don't bill insurance directly, but many clients use their out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for a portion of session fees. We provide superbills you can submit to your insurance company.
How is sex therapy different from couples therapy at LTT?
Couples therapy addresses the broader aspects of the relationship, such as communication, conflict, and connection. Sex therapy is a specialized focus within that work. Our therapists are trained specifically in sex therapy and are equipped to address sexual concerns that general couples therapists often aren't equipped to handle.
“Most people were never taught how to talk about sex, which is exactly why we're here.”
