What Individual Therapy at LTT Looks Like

Whether you're working through something on your own or preparing for deeper relational work, our therapists bring the same relationship-focused lens to individual sessions that we bring to couples and sex therapy. Sessions are available in person in NYC and via telehealth anywhere in New York State.

While our specialty is relationship- and sexuality-focused, we also help adults dealing with everyday mental health challenges, including anxiety, career stress, family dynamics, grief, loneliness, and more.

Common Questions About Individual Therapy

Is individual therapy at LTT only for people already in a relationship?

No! Many of our individual clients are single and working on patterns around dating, intimacy, self-worth, or past relationship experiences. Others are in relationships and using individual sessions alongside or instead of couples work. Individual therapy is available whether or not you're currently partnered.

Does LTT accept insurance for individual therapy?

LTT is an out-of-network provider, which means we don't bill insurance directly, but many clients use their out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for a portion of session fees. We provide superbills you can submit to your insurance company, and we're happy to help you understand your specific plan's out-of-network coverage.

How is individual therapy different from couples therapy at LTT?

Individual therapy focuses on your own patterns, history, and experience one-on-one with a therapist. Couples involve both partners in the room together, focused on the relationship itself. Many clients move between the two, or do both at once.

Can individual therapy help me understand my attachment style?

Yes. Attachment patterns often shape how we connect, trust, and communicate in relationships, and they're a common focus in our individual sessions. Understanding your attachment style can help you recognize recurring dynamics and make different choices going forward, whether or not you're currently in a relationship.

What can I expect in a first individual therapy session?

Your first session is a chance to share what's bringing you to therapy, ask questions, and get a feel for whether your therapist is the right fit. There's no pressure to have everything figured out going in.

Do you only treat relationship and intimacy issues in individual therapy?

No. While relationship and intimacy work is our specialty, we also support individual clients with anxiety, career stress, family dynamics, grief, and loneliness.
